New category of the Golden Globes "The best movie of Bollywood"
Rajan Zed, the highly acclaimed statesman Indo-American, in a statement in Nevada (USA) today said that India has the largest film industry in the world and therefore it deserved at least a category at the Golden Globes where his films could compete with them. This gesture could bring more credibility to the Golden Globes in the international arena too, since this measure should have been taken long ago that.
Being the President of the Indo-American Leadership Confederation, he also added later that the film in India, based in Bombay and in various regional centers, is known for producing many more films and attract more spectators in the Hollywood set (which released only 610 films in 2008). It is quite unfair for a film so influential not have its own category at the Golden Globes. "The award for Best Foreign Language Film" at the Golden Globes is not a category that does justice to such a large industry, "he added.
The Golden Globes recognize achievements in 25 categories: 14 in movies and 11 television.
The 67th annual ceremony of the Golden Globe Awards will be held at the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills (California USA) January 17 next.

Shahid has changed for good says Ken Ghosh

Ken admits Shahid was working on Chance Pe Dance simultaneously with Kaminey and Dil Bole Hadippa and there would be huge problems with dates.
“I’d ask for three days. He would have only one day to spare. I’d naturally be upset. Then understandably, Shahid wanted time off. He couldn’t be seen on my set straight after shooting for one of the other two films. This naturally led to heated arguments. For me as a director it was okay to come on the sets without sleep. But Shahid had to catch up on his resting time. Or the dark circles would have shown on camera. And since Shahid is fair-complexioned those dark circles would be even more visible,” says Ken.
Talking about how Shahid has improved as an actor Ken says, “Shahid’s dancing in Chance Pe Dance is the film’s mainstay. But his performance is not just about dancing. Some of the things he has done in the dramatic scenes took me by surprise. Shahid has brought subtle expressions into scenes which I didn’t catch while shooting. Only during editing I realized what he had done.”

SRK is amongst the 500 most influential Muslims worldwide

SRK talks about being listed amongst 500 most influential Muslims and says, “I don’t think a list of this nature is of a competitive type to feel proud about. It’s not about a list of awards that I have won. I am a Muslim by birth and because of the kind of cinema I do, I assume must be influencing lives of people across the world. I have been actively working in the film industry for 18 years and my work has gone across the world, my films and done well in many places including Germany, Poland, Dubai, USA, Morocco and South East Asia. People know me well because of my films but I never felt that I was different. I’m in the field of mass communication and am doing my work. That’s it.”
When he was quizzed about the reason he has been chosen, he said, “I think it could be because of the kind of films I do. I try to do films that have variety and are about goodness and hope. They give a direction to a life. I have done films on romances to patriotic dramas like Chak De! and funny entertainers like Om Shanti Om — films that try to give a kind of positive message to people. I hope in this I am able to influence the lives of many, especially youngsters and children. It’s about giving some kind of direction to their lives. Like I might tell my children to study hard or teach them how to lead a good life.”
When asked who is the most influential person in the world, SRK said, “Like every movie star’s influence changes with every B-O release, I think even across the globe people’s influence changes. Today, there is not just one global influence but a collective of influences. I don’t believe the world can be run by one influential person right now. The world has become too intelligent to be demarcated by one person. It’s the good thoughts of many. Like Bill Gates, Mukesh Ambani, Obama are very influential and wonderful in their field of work but collectively, they are fantastic.”
Folks do you think SRK deserves to amongst the 500 most influential Muslims in the world?

Emraan Hashmi is the latest to go six-pack way
Emraan Hashmi is all set to change his serial kisser image with his upcoming film “Once Upon A Time In Mumbai” – he will flaunt six-pack abs and will be seen challenging an underworld don.Director Milan Luthria says that he purposely wanted to give Emraan this look.
“Emraan has always been the underdog and his character is that of a rebel, a dark horse. I wanted to break his serial kisser image and add shock value to the film,” Luthria told IANS.
“I chose Emraan and then styled him this way as it was extremely difficult to find a youngster who in levels of intensity could be equal and at same time opposite to that of Ajay Devgan.”
The film is based on the Mumbai underworld of the seventies and Emraan’s character challenges the underworld don, played by Ajay.
“The role in the film demanded a look like this. It’s not just about the six packs, my character had to look physically tough. It was one of the key requirements of the script,” Emraan told IANS.
The actor, who has done hit films like “Murder”, “Kalyug”, “Jannat” and “Raaz – The Mystery Continues”, underwent rigorous training and followed a strict diet regime to obtain the sculpted body.
Emraan was given Angular training method and the training period was divided into blocks of 10 days.
The actor was advised to have five-six meals a day and followed guidelines like consuming fats, which were four and five grams of fish oil for fat loss, walnuts and almonds, carb manipulation for losing fat and maintaining muscle mass and protein intake.
Earlier, Shah Rukh Khan and Aamir Khan went for six-pack for “Om Shanti Om” and “Ghajini” respectively. Shahid Kapoor is doing two better — he will show off eight-pack abs in his forthcoming film “Chance Pe Dance”.
“Once Upon A Time…” also stars Kangna Ranaut and Prachi Desai and is expected to hit screens in June next year.

What prompted director Mudassar to carry Sushmita Sen?

A photo of director Mudassar Aziz carrying Sushmita Sen on his shoulders during the Caribbean shoot of their film “Dulha Mil Gaya” has been splashed all over the Internet, creating much buzz. Though it looks like a romantic episode, the reality is completely different.
The crew had specially created a ramp that extended into the Caribbean Sea for a shoot, along with a 50-metre walkway and it apparently got washed away by a storm. While the ramp was made again, recreating the walkway would have delayed the shoot due to which the cast and crew had to wade through waters till the ramp.
“Due to her costumes and make-up, she (Sushmita) wasn’t expected to traverse the sea on foot to reach the ramp,” producer Viveck Vaswani told IANS.
“She would have made some reasonable comments like ‘can’t shoot’, ‘too difficult’ or ‘make a walkway’ and that wouldn’t have even constituted as starry tantrums. However, all credit to her professionalism, she was sport enough to be carried on Mudassar’s shoulders. The two being good friends further eased the situation,” he said.
The fact is that it wasn’t just Sushmita who was transported in a similar fashion.
“Though a picture of Sushmita being carried by Mudassar is being splashed all over, making it look like a romantic episode, the fact remains that the young director with help from other crew members was also carrying sensitive filming equipments. This is not all as the art director, who is a senior lady and had hurt her back, was also being ferried in a similar way,” said a source from the crew.
All this pain had to be taken by the crew to shoot the film’s title sequence featuring Sushmita on the specially created ramp.
“We did recreate the ramp but for the walkway we had two choices. Either construct it and hence delay the shoot by at least a day or somehow think innovative and reach the ramp for the shoot. We opted for the latter though the process had to be repeated not just for Sushmita but others as well,” said Vaswani.
While Sushmita refuses to react to rumours, Mudassar says it is easy to sensationalise things.
“I really don’t have much to react on something as frivolous as this. There are so many beautiful moments attached with ‘Dulha Mil Gaya’ and something like this hardly deserves more attention and focus,” Sushmita told IANS.
Mudassar said: “It is easy to sensationalise a simple picture. However, the sheer hard work and sweat that goes into taking a simple shot is something that only those people can explain who have gone through the entire tribulation.”

Amitabh Bachchan conferred Asian Film Cultural Award

Amitabh Bachchan was Monday conferred the Asian Film Cultural Award for completing 40 years in the entertainment industry.
Receiving the award from Bollywood director Ramesh Sippy, Bachchan thanked Kiran Shantaram, chairman, Asian Film Foundation for selecting him for the award.
“I am most grateful to Kiran Shantaram, who has an old association with me for many, many years, has given me the opportunity to receive this award and the love and affection of the people present here,” Bachchan said.
Bachchan started his career in 1969 with director Khwaja Ahmad Abbas’ film “Saat Hindustani”.
“I have looked upon my career of 40 years in this wonderful industry as a great opportunity to be able to represent my creativity and my art, but more importantly to project our cinema to the other parts of the world. I feel very honoured to be here at an organisation that conducts this activity so that the rest of the world come to learn more about our culture, our films,” he said.
His oeuvre ranges from rib-tickling comedies to tearjerkers to subtle, nuanced performances in art-house films.
Bachchan emphasized that Indian cinema has been the one unifying force between the people from diverse castes, creeds, cultures, religions and languages.
“In a country that is so diverse as India is with different castes, creeds, religions, cultures and languages, that perhaps the one unifying force that brings all these people together under one roof has been the Indian cinema. We never ask the person sitting next to me whether the person is a Hindu, Muslim or Sikh. We laugh at the same jokes, we sing the same songs, we cry at the same emotions. I think that perhaps this cinema house is the greatest example of integration you can find anywhere in the world,” said Bachchan.
The Dec 4-10 8th Asian Film Festival would feature 75 films from 24 Asian countries.
Amitabh Bachchan’s son Abhishek was also present on the occasion.
Ranbir, Priyanka didn’t hike fee for my movie

Ranbir Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra are riding high at the box office these days but they offered to keep their fees at the most reasonable for “Anjana Anjani”, making Sajid Nadiadwala a happy producer.
“Ranbir and Priyanka were already part of our extended family. When Ranbir’s father Chintu-ji (Rishi Kapoor) was working in my dad’s production ‘Hathyar’, I was an assistant. That’s when I got to know Chintu-ji and his family,” Nadiadwala told IANS.
“Priyanka has been family from the time she did ‘Mujhse Shaadi Karogi’ for my banner. So yes, they’ve certainly not hiked their price just because they are super-saleable today. In fact, they didn’t even discuss money with me.”
This is Ranbir and Priyanka’s first film together and Nadiadwala says their chemistry was evident in Bangkok. “Both Ranbir and Priyanka have changed their looks for this film. They hardly knew one another before the shooting. So they’re getting to know each other as their on-screen romance progresses.
“Ranbir is entertaining on screen. But he carries that sense of fun from the screen to the sets. Priyanka was in her own shell to begin with. But her resolve didn’t take long to dissolve,” he said.
Nadiadwala’s last release “Kambakht Ishq”, which starred Akshay Kumar and Kareena Kapoor, got a lukewarm response but it hasn’t dissuaded him from shooting “Anjana Anjani” in foreign locales. He heads to the US to shoot the film.
Those who thought Nadiadwala was done with sylvester Stallone, who played a cameo in his “Kambakht Ishq”, here’s the surprise element – he has an appointment with the Hollywood action star who may make an appearance in “Anjana Anjani” as well.
“We don’t work that way in our production house. Our bonds are for keeps,” said the producer, whose elder son Subhaan is a big fan of Stallone.
Subhaan kept in touch with his idol long after “Kambakht Ishq” came and went.
“Subhaan is coming with us only to meet Stallone. To call him Stallone’s fan would be an understatement. He isn’t a fan, he’s a fanatic. His day starts with Stallone’s signature song ‘Eye Of The Tiger’ from ‘Rocky’. He knows every trivia associated with Stallone,”Nadiadwala said.

Varma replaces “Jana Gana” with “Vande Mataram” in movie Rann

So is another controversy on the way as the filmmaker has moved from the country’s national anthem to the national song?
“Not at all. What we have used of ‘Vande Mataram’ are just these two words. I don’t see anything controversial in this since it stands for ‘Bow to thee, Mother’. Tell me, what’s wrong in using that?” Varma told IANS.
“Rann” is about the media industry and Amitabh Bachchan plays media bigwig Harshvardhan Malik in the film that also stars Riteish Deshmukh, Paresh Rawal, Mohnish Behl, Suchitra Krishnamurthy and Gul Panag.
Earlier this year, Varma’s “Rann” came under fire when the film’s first look was revealed with the song “Jana Gana Mann Rann”. Since the lyrics of the national anthem were altered to give it a new socio-political dimension, the matter reached the censor board and the court.
While the censor board instructed Varma to refrain from telecasting the promo, producers Madhu Mantena and Sheetal Vinod Talwar had registered a civil case in the Mumbai High Court against the board’s ruling.
In fact, the makers of the films had even sent copies of the music video to MPs to show that they were in no way hurting national sentiments.
“But then there was no point defending the song on and on. Enough noise was being made and it was best to replace it with something else and move on. I can now say that the entire controversy is pretty much left behind,” Varma said.
Since the song is no more a part of “Rann”, will it impact the film in totality?
“Not really, because eventually ‘Vande Mataram’ is a part of the background score. Since it wasn’t a different song that was shot, it doesn’t make a fundamental difference to the narrative,” said Varma.
Unlike Varma’s previous movies, “Rann” doesn’t have an item number.
“No, there is no item number in ‘Rann’. Each song is related to the theme of ‘Rann’ and they would last for 30 seconds or at most 60 seconds in the film. There is no lip sync song either. The beauty of the music of ‘Rann’ is that it brings in a completely creative feel and an emotional tone to the narrative,” he said.
